Each year Kingston Arts hosts Artz Blitz – a 24 hour visual art and creative writing competition. The concept is straight forward – a secret theme is revealed to all registered participants 24 hours before the due date. Each participant has exactly 24 hours to interpret the theme and provide a visual response.

Lacking Mental Space was Bill Potiris’ response to the 2016 theme – ‘Space’.

The work depicted the lack of personal thought space we are all faced with on a day to day basis. ‘Our lives are busy and crammed with ‘to-do’ lists. We are constantly bombarded with audio and visual cues from the technologies which surround us,’ commented Bill Potiris.

Bill continued to add, ‘my response outlined the constrained nature of our lives as indicated by the dark background. Although the lighter area is within reach, we often cannot see or change our lives to create more thinking space’.
